12uKnightsthis one was a doozy.....a triple overtime thriller for all the marbles
Athens won the kick and elected to receive. three quick first downs turned into a FG from
K Sam Good and an early lead for the Owls
QB William Cutting had a rough start. he was sacked for a total of -16 yards in his first three drop backs and the Butchers were forced to punt into a short field for the Owls but they were unable to take advantage of the opportunity after a three and out. two plays later and free agent acquisition
CB Kristopher Moya picks off his first of two Cutting passes on the day setting the Owls up with terrific field position and another FG from Good
Cutting responds to the 0-6 deficit by leading a 75 yard TD drive in which he goes 7-8 for 58 yards and the games first TD to
WR Gordon Daythe Owls respond with an impressive rush powered 6 and a half minute 76 yard TD drive to reclaim the lead, 13-7 with just under six to go in the second quarter
some questionable play calling from Chicago
HC Byron Aman on the Butchers next possession resulted in six consecutive passes from Cutting. the sixth pass was Moyas second INT of the game but the Owls did not convert and the teams entered the half
Cuttings second half also began by getting sacked. he was caught behind the line an amazing 11 times in this game, which is an all time ULRO record for post season and regular season. however he seemed unfazed and continued to complete passes and pick up first downs until
RB Aaron Cheatham (who has a 100 avoid fumble rating) fumbles at the 17 yard line and ruins a golden chance for some points
the teams then exchange punts until Owls
RB Henry Ruelas fumbles on his own 34 to set
K David McMurray up with a FG to get the game to within 3. He kicks another about 5 minutes late to tie the game at 13 with 11:44 to go
after another three and out from the Owls, Cutting throws his third INT of the day which is turned into a beautiful 57 yard FG from Good. this was his third career 57 yard FG in the post season to give Athens a 16-13 lead
despite their struggles in the passing game, the Butchers stick to their guns and pass thier way into FG range where McMurray is able to convert and tie the game up again with just 1:05 remaining
Chicago won the OT coin toss and elected to receive and they put together a terrific seven minute 56 yard drive for a FG putting the Owls in a do or die scenario
the Owls respond with a 6 minute 48 yard drive of their own and K Sam Good delivers with 2 minutes remaining to keep the game going. the next team to score would be the winner
after a bunch of punts and a missed game winner, K Sam Good scores the winning points with a 33 yard FG with 10 minutes to go in the third overtime
the 2074 Ultimate Showdown MVP goes to
K Sam Good who goes 5/5 including a 57 yarder, a game saver and an Ultimate Showdown winner
this is the third Ultimate Showdown to be decided in OT in just 6 years
