another great regular season is in the books. thank you all for participating and for making this league great. would like to do a write up for every spin….but like everything else, it takes a lot longer to write than it does to read. will continue to do them when i can. will probably start limiting game write ups to noteworthy games and stand out performances

only 6 home teams won in week 16

we start this week in Lagos where the Lions defeat the 86ers to win the Africa Division. this was only possible because the Deities defeated the Stampede. thank you, Rialto. and thanks to the Pirates, trslick and former Lions HC Lester Davis for defeating the Zippers. the odds were long but this this combination of outcomes propelled the Lions from a probable sixth seed to securing home field advantage in the Old World. unbelievable. the streets in Lagos were full of life and exuberance. the win gives Africa the distinction of being the only division to ever produce three 12 win teams in one season. that very well may never happen again

QB Charles Brunswick passes for 407 YDs & 4 TDs during the leagues 7th ever perfect game (158.33 rating) as the Golden Eagles scorch the Tides defense for 555 yards to finish a remarkable season. they have now won eleven in a row and have eared ten more victories than they did in 2071. the win gives them home field advantage in the New World. HC Bryan Hussey (only 55 rating) unanimously wins the coach of the year award. this is truly an amazing accomplishment and a nice reward for their active off season. the loss finishes the Tides nightmare season. they have never had a season with less than ten victories, but they only mustered four this season. plus, they were the only team to lose to the Rodeo. will be interesting to see what changes are in their future

Auckland K Joshua Hastings sends a 47 yard attempt wide left as time expires and the Owls hold on to victory. the win ends a three game skid just in time for the playoffs. this was a down year for the Anchors who miss the playoffs for the first time. a bright spot for them was the dependability of rookie RB Billy Bojangles, who rushed for 1102 Yds

RB Quentin Osborne takes a first quarter kick off for 110 YDs for a TD and the Kraken defeat the Street Urchins to move into the playoffs with a three game win streak

the Revolution fail to defend home turf and the Bayhawks head west with all the confidence they need for their big rematch next week in San Francisco. the Bayhawks mighty run defense holds the Revolutions rush attack to just 13 YDs

WR Sylvester Slone takes the opening hand off 75 YDs to the bank and the Power never look back in a romp over San Jose. after a surprising 6-1 start, the 2072 Bushmasters hit a wall very hard and drop 8 of their last 9 games. the Power improve on their previous season to earn a franchise record 13 wins......Calgary seems primed to become perennial play off participants for the next few seasons

the Jaguars defeat the Rodeo to end what I hope is the worst season in the leagues history. the Rodeo finish the season 1-15 while being outscored 86 - 351 for an average game score of 22 - 5. cant see how HC Gary Stover keeps his office after this debacle. the worst part of it all is that they dont have their first round draft pick. A NOTE : HCs who run the West Coast offense in Ultimate Legends RO are a combined 77 - 147 - 2 (35%) since leagues inception and have never had a winning record.....except Mark Bales and his 11-5-1 season with the Street Urchins. when he is removed from the equation it drops to 32%......your choice but this is a clear message

the Pirates have something to look forward to next season after finishing their season 5-1-1 with a defeat of the 2nd seed Zippers. no one can accuse trslick of tanking. many point to HC Lester Davis's decision to move RB Haruki Tanaka to RB1 for their late season success while even more wonder what took so long

some records were broken this season

* QB Christopher Silcox averaged 8.63 yards per attempt
* QB Brandon House was sacked 25 times (tie)
* WR Earl Allen totaled 1297 receiving yards
* K Arturo Bryant kicked 43 field goals (tie). 28 were from 40+ and 16 were from 50+,
both records
* P Matthew Lashbrook punted 160 times (10 a game! Holy moly)
* 5 different punters broke the record for highest average. P Patrick Dinkins & P Punch
Warburton
now hold the record at 48.3
* LDE Christian Barmore had 10 sacks
* RDE Steve Smith had 27 hurries
* CB Eric Bradley had 9 ints (tie, second time for him)
* MLB Philip Willingham returned 2 INTs for TDs
* RB Richard Braswell fumbled 16 times

thats all for now. good luck to everyone in the Pretenders vs. Contenders round

Someone explain the phenomenon Wesley Bond (Bayhawks), who competes for the DPOY, with 19 Hurrys and 8 Sacks.

His numbers on his abilities are surprisingly low.

Run defense 35, Pass Rush 53, Tackle ability 43, speed and acceleration 76 and 77, they are not bad numbers but I am surprised by what he achieved, I must say that he has a remarkable intelligence and discipline, is that these 2 qualities are fundamental for DT's position?

He is fast strong and can get off the line quick. He also started for 16 games on a very good team that was ahead a lot forcing teams to pass more resulting in a lot of pass rush opportunities.

great question, great answer

purely speculation on my behalf, but i suspect that some players have a code attached that have them perform above others regardless of their attributes. i always check a players stats before choosing them for my team. often times a player with impressive attributes doesnt seem to do much on the field, while a player with impressive stats have attributes that are hard to make sense of

in Bonds case, i deduce that his combination of strength, acceleration and speed helps him rush through the line at a consistent clip. possibly there are weak guards and centers in his division to help inflate his numbers

Also the maximum speed and acceleration for a dt is 81 I believe so he's nearly perfect in those instances. The key to overcoming his pass rush and run defense is his intelligence. Intelligence is almost as overpowered as speed in many ways. with a DT I'd imagine intelligence is 60% of each pass rush and run block move, before considering he's hitting the hole better to be in the right spot. Then consider his elite physical talent and he's massively hard to stop. But you can see that intelligence doesn't affect all stats equally at all positions. He had a lot of missed tackles from his low tackling. However further off the line at safety you'll see bad tackling offset by intelligence due to better tackling angles. High intelligence can offset a lot of bad stats.
