We had arguably the leagues best offense vs the leagues best defense this week when the Gauchos played the Bayhawks. The Gauchos got on the board early scoring a rare TD against the Bayhawks on the first drive. The Gauchos missed a FG on their next drive and didn't get any more that 21 yards on a possession after that till the last drive. The Bayhawks would put up 4 FGs and missed one. The Gauchos got the ball with 6:15 on the clock and put together a 16 play 79 yard TD drive that took almost 5 1/2 minutes. They converted on 3 3rd downs, a 4th down, a 2 point conversion, and left the Bayhawks with just 46 seconds which the Bayhawks could not do anything with.
It was a tale of 2 halves for the Jaguars who turned the ball over 3 times early while going down 6-0 after the first half. The Trident turned it over 3 times in the 2nd half while the Jaguars put up 19.
The Kings and Zippers got to have a 3rd game this season the Zippers lost the first 2 but those were the only 2 losses the Zippers had. The Kings really looked in trouble after the first half giving up 2 TDs and having to punt 6 times in a row to start the game. The Kings bounced back after that outscoring the Zippers 17-3 in the 2nd half sending them to OT. Each team punted 4 times and threw an interception in the first OT. They would exchange punts one more time in 2nd OT. Then the Kings were able to convert on a 3rd and 10 with an 11 yard catch to set up the game winning FG. The Zippers season is done with 3 total losses all against the Kings.
The Owls got home field advantage and a bye week over the Stampede in the last week of the season, and would look for revenge for their loss to the Stampede during the regular season. The Stampede would get things started with a FG, and the Owls responded with a FG of their own. They got it by a pass interference on what would have been an INT and a fumble that the Owls were able to hold onto. If either one was a turnover the Stampede would have won. Then they had to kick off to Melvin Blankenship who has 5 kick returns for TD's this season. He took it 72 yards before he was caught setting up the Stampede to make a FG, if he scored the Stamped would have won. On the next drive the Stampede missed a FG. The Stampede had the ball in FG range on their next drive when the backup RB fumbled. If he holds on to the ball the Stampede would have won. In the 2 minute drill for the Owls the Stampede were nice enough to give them a facemask and pass interference penalties to give the Owls a FG at the end of the half which would be the difference in the game. The Stampede would start the 2nd half by throwing an INT which set up the Owls in easy FG range which was the difference in the game. Fast forward a few drives and the Stampede miss a FG which was the difference in the game. The Stampede had one more chance, with 1 minute left they had the ball on the Owls 3 yard line and a first down. QB Dennis Cobb gets a hot read right to the DE for the Owls. All he had to do was not turn it over and the Stampede win. But the Stampede lost 6-9. I think I counted 8 times the Stampede blew this game.
