Pretenders vs. Contenders

The Bayhawks were able to sneak into the playoffs with a tie the last game of the season. That was the 3rd tie for the Bayhawks who had less wins than the Revolution but they did not make the playoffs. The Butchers took the USA division over the Bayhawks and Revolution.

The Bayhawks and Butchers got to play their 3rd game this season. The Butchers took both of their first 2 games against each other. But this is the playoffs and nothing that happened in the regular season matters anymore. Once you get in the playoffs anything can happen. Both teams missed a FG in the windy 24 degree weather in Chicago. Leaving the game scoreless through 4 quarters. The Bayhawks needed just 2 plays in OT to score a TD and win the game. Robert Chang took a slant and just ran past everybody for the 67 yard TD.

The Trident played great defense as both of the playoff games for the New World were shutouts. The Trident kicked 4 FGs to beat the Tide. The Tide are now in search of new leadership after their GM retired after the loss.

The Anchors got very lucky to win their division with a tie against the Bayhawks in week 16. A loss for either of those teams could have eliminated one of them from the playoffs but the tie got them both in. The Anchors used up all their luck to win the division though as they would go on to lose their first playoff game to the Zippers. The Anchors 2 chances at the end of the game but threw and INT on their first opportunity. Then the Zippers gave it right back on a fumble but the Zippers defense held up for the win.

The Stampede almost had a first round bye but lost the last week of the season while the Owls beat the Kings who were undefeated at the time. The Stampede would play the Deities who looked like they were completely out of contention after losing their first 5 games of the season. After that they went 9-2 to finish the season and get the 2nd wildcard spot. The Deities had already lost twice to the Stampede this season heading into their playoff game.

The Deities put up a strong fight in this one as the game was decided on just 2 plays. An 83 yard TD catch and run by Daniel Ruiz in the 2nd and a fumble by the Deities punt returner in the 4th giving the Stampede just 4 yards to go to get the TD.
