Targets stat

Seems like a no brainer. Targets adds a lot of context to catches and drops.

I will support this as soon as the pass progression algorithms are fixed. Right now, this is a pointless stat since the QB stares down each receiver in turn, which means he usually only looks at one receiver on a play.

I'm not sure I take your point. Targets are about how many times a receiver has a ball thrown to them. It has nothing to do with how man receivers the QB looked at during a play.

The larger point is that the QB looks at only one receiver on a route, so if you want to know targets, just check the game log. Targets is only a useful stat when determining how often a QB is throwing at that receiver. And that is only a useful stat when the QB can scan the field properly.

Also, the target stat in this game is not accurate.

When the QB thows the ball away, it still counts as a target for one of the receivers, which it shouldn't.

Targets is a huge stat when it comes down to your depth chart. If everything was good and it dident count throw always it would let you know if a WR is better suited at number one or not because he might only catch 40 percent , if you moved him to the number two and he catches 60 percent it's gonna help. It's kinda like the db stat with catches allowed. Which I still don't think that is all that correct because corners give up more then 35 percent of passes. It might be because of the throw always also. Run stops would also be a good stat addition , also tackles when catch is allowed so you can see how many real solo run tackles your guys get. Tackles for loss is another.
